How to Keep Your
Books & Librarian Happy

Read a Good Book...
1. Keep books away from food and beverages.  Please have snacks before or after reading your library books and keep them away from areas where food is served.  Remember:  Don't feed your book!

2. Read it! Or listen to it! Check out our collection of books on CD.

3. Turn pages carefully from the top right corner, not the bottom.

4. Make sure your hands are clean when reading library books.

5. Protect the spine of the book by always using a bookmark rather than placing it face down with the pages open.

6. Always use one of our cool school bookmarks instead of turning down pages.  Do not use objects not meant to be bookmarks, such as pencils.  Anything too thick will break the book's spine.

7. Remember be cool and keep your books at school!

8. Return your book on time so others may enjoy it. You have 2 weeks!

The ‘Shane-O-Mak’ Corner:
Small Steps, the sequel to Holes:
It’s a follow up on Armpit and X-Ray’s post-Camp Greenlake, and how they struggle to gain their friends’ and families’ trust again, as well as each other.  It is an exciting, captivating book.  It holds your interest in that you always want to know what is going to happen next.. it leaves you hangin’!  Special note--there is going to be a sequel to this book.
(Star) Rating:  3 ½ stars

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck:
There were two men who had to travel the countryside to find work. They couldn't’t be separated because the one man took care of (watched over) the other man, Lennie who was mentally challenged. The setting is early 20th century in the vegetable fields of Salinas Valley, California. Their dream was to save enough money to buy their own house and take care of each other like “family”. Misfortune came their way when Lennie accidentally committed murder. At the point that everyone was hunting him down to kill him, his friend, George decided it would be better if he caused Lennie to die instead of the mad mob chasing him. This book is recommended to high school age and up due to its graphic content.
