Videoconference Project: Works for Me!


This project was created as an assignment in Planning Interactive Curriculum Connections, an online class offered by Berrien RESA and taught by Janine Lim.

Topic: Study Skills
Target audience/participants: Middle school students; Grades 6-8

Learner Outcomes:
Learners will evaluate study skills/techniques
Learners will present study skills/techniques

Methods and Activities
Students will:
1. Use a variety of sources to research study skills/techniques
2. Select study skill/technique to try
3. Design and implement a "fair" test to evaluate effectiveness
4. Share/present effect study skill/techniques

Teachers will:
1. Arrange video conference
2. Coordinate study skills/techniques so that a variety is
presented at both sites
3. Facilitate discussions
4. Provide guidance in terms of "fair" tests
5. Arrange for equipment/materials for presentations
6. Facilitate follow-up discussions

Materials:
List of possible sources for study skills/techniques
Student generated definition of "effective study skills/techniques"
Evaluation form
Specific materials/equipment needed for presentations

Time: Approximately 2 weeks with 1 class period for videoconference for presenting and sharing

Agenda
Prior to conference (set up may be done via e-mail)
1. Arrange videoconference/target date
2. Compile list of possible study skills/technique sources -
coordinate so that different techniques are selected
3. Each school carry out plan to investigate/evaluate study skills
techniques
Day before conference - check equipment

Day of conference
1. Introduce students - recap project to date
2. Allow students to present
3. Follow-up discussion
