This project was created as an assignment in Planning Interactive Curriculum Connections, an online class offered by Berrien RESA and taught by Janine Lim.
Topic: Simon Dice (Simon Says) / Spanish
Learner Outcomes: Students will learn a variety of vocabulary in Spanish prior to the v/c and during the v/c they will practice and demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary they have learned.
Methods and Activities:
- Students will learn a group of words in Spanish before the v/c.
- During the v/c the two groups of students will take turns to give instructions to the other class and to try to follow the other group"s instructions.
- Each student should have the opportunity to give at least one instruction.
- When it is the turn of a group to follow instructions, all of the students of the group will try to follow the instructions.
- The instructions should be given in Spanish only and using the format of the game Simon dice (Simon says) For example, if a group of students are giving instructions related to a group of verbs, it will go something like this:
Simon dice que salten (Simon says to jump)
Simon dice que rian (Simon says to laugh)
Simon dice que lloren (Simon says to cry)
- If the group of words is something like shapes, the students should be prepared with visuals about them and the instructions can go something like this:
Simon dice que muestren un circulo (Simon says you have to show me a circle)
Simon dice que muestren un cuadrado (Simon says you have to show me a square)
- If the group of words is something like body parts, students can either show them by touching their body, or use visuals.
- It will depend on the teacher and the level of Spanish of the students how easy or tricky the game will be.
Materials:
- (Prior to the v/c) Lists of at several groups of words in Spanish, like shapes, colors, animals, verbs, body parts, etc. with their respective translations in English.
- If the words chosen can be showed or acted by the students easily, like body parts or verbs, no material is necessary. But, if they chose for example "wild animals", visuals or drawings of the words should be made by the students to use during the v/c.
