This project was created as an assignment in Planning Interactive Curriculum Connections, an online class offered by Berrien RESA and taught by Janine Lim.
Topic: Sharing to Preparing to Competing.....
Possible dates/times: As often as the teachers/students choose to connect
Learner Outcomes: Students will have an alternative method for preparing for a test, and through competition with other classes, increase their desire to do their best as individuals and in teams.
Methods and Activities:
- The teachers submit questions to prepare the students for reviewing for a chapter test, final exam, AP test, etc.
- The questions are loaded into a CPS database(Classroom Performance System by eInstruction).
- The students are placed into equal number of groups for each class that is participating.
- During the videoconference:
- The students from each class are timed on each question to answer and respond to the CPS unit attached to a computer at each site. (immediate feedback on percentage right)
- At the end of all questions, immediate feedback is given on percentage of overall correct)
- The teachers/students then discuss and work out questions together.
- The classes can choose to compete to see who gets the higher overall percentage.
An AP English IV class from two different high schools connected 8 times to prepare them for the AP test. The teachers and students gained tremendous expereince. The discussion between the teachers and students allowed a deeper knowledge of vocabulary and interpreatation of passages.
I am applying this project to 5 different Pre-AP Geometry teachers from our three high schools next week. It is not only preparing the students for their final but allowing them to discuss problems across classes. The classes are also competing against each other. We will see who the top class is!!
