Objectives: Students will do general research on the Golden age of Exploration through websites, books and Encarta. They will develop an understanding of the interconnectedness of the explorers and the impact of their exploration on the world, including the indigenous people in whom they came in contact.

Procedure: Students will do general research on the Golden age of Exploration through websites, books and Encarta. The explorers studied will include: (More may be added with prior discussion of the participating schools)

Preparation
Groups of 3 or 4 children will become experts on 1 explorer and research him in depth. They will develop skits that what they have learned about “their” explorer. The skit must include answers to the following questions:
1.Where did he sail from?
2.Where did he sail to?
3. What country sponsored him/
4.What impact was there on the indigenous people he encountered?

Three other questions must be addressed.
1.What fellow explorers did he met?
2.What was the name of his ship(s)
3.What are some hardships he encountered
4.How many voyages did he go on/
5. How did he die?
6.What places are there today named because he was there?

Agenda
Students will do their presentations, (4 five minute presentations from each class). A thirty minute break will give time for the students to consult their notes and do limited research. Then both classes will have the opportunity to ask one question of each group, then guess who the explorer was. Time will be included to share additional information if needed.
