This project was created as an assignment in Planning Interactive Curriculum Connections, an online class offered by Berrien RESA and taught by Janine Lim.
Topic: CO2 Dragster
Time: 4-6 week time period needed
Outcomes: The students will learn about aerodynamics, measurement, and woodworking skills.
Learner Outcomes: The students will learn how to design and construct a dragster. The students will be sharing ideas and information via email. Then when the project is complete the students will have the conference to show off their cars and then have the races over the conference.
Materials: Videos on how to build, booklet on how to build, the wood to construct and all the other misc. parts to the vehicle.
What will students do? The students will be developing a dragster, through a variety of design processes. They will be able to share their ideas with other students in the classroom and via email.In the end they will have a design that is a complete that they will be able to race.
What will teacher do? The teacher will provide the proper guidance in the development of the car. They will lead the students through each step carefully so they will understand the processes. The teacher will be communicating with other teachers to make sure the kids are on the same pace. We will monitor racing and communication between and during the conferencing.
Agenda:
Day 1 - 2: Videos about the project, show other cars as examples
3 - 4: sketching of designs, email
5 - 6: final designs of cars, email
7 - 12: prototype development, kids make changes if they need here, email
13 - 25: final car starts to be built out of basswood, includes cutting, sanding, painting, putting final parts on car
