Invasive Species Videoconference

Description
Please join our students to discuss the introduced and/or invasive species of each area and the effects of these invaders on the ecosystem.

Each group will investigate and then share what the introduced species are in their area, where they came from and how and when each was introduced. How are these invaders being dealt with? What effects have they had on the ecosystem? Are there any predators in the new ecosystem for them? Are any steps being taken to prevent new invasive species from appearing?

Student Presentations
Your presentation should include the following information:

  • Where the species came from.
  • How & when it was introduced.
  • What effect it is having on the ecosystem (i.e. the disruption it's causing).
  • Are there any natural controls on it?
  • How are we dealing with it, or are we letting nature take its course?
  • Ways to prevent new invasive species in your area.
